Most streaming apps only stream from a PC. If you want to stream movies directly from the NAS without turning any computer on, try FileBrowser app for iPad. Its UI design looks like a Mac Finder or Windows Explorer. FileBrowser allows you to stream videos straight off your computer or NAS server drive, view documents and media type that iPad supports from remote Mac, Windows Server, Time Capsule and Network drives. I have stored mp4 videos on the NAS drive and now can play them on my iPad. After the last update, the app supports multi-file copy, move and delete.
